Mindfulness Program Awards

Achievement Awards
The Mindfulness Program Achievement Awards recognize students who are role models for integrating mindfulness and compassion into their lives and the lives of others as demonstrated through course assignments. These students maintain a dedicated and consistent practice, support one another during their enrollment in the course, and are engaged in the mindfulness and compassion communities at Fullerton College and beyond.

2022 Award Recipients

Nicholas Acevedo

The MIND 101 course has helped me define myself and appreciate who I am! The aspects of mindfulness have an extraordinary impact on who you are and who you want to be! I will never forget the experiences and connections I’ve made in my MIND 101 class! Those around me have had a tremendous positive influence on my mindfulness journey and I am very appreciative to have them in my life! I am honored to have the opportunity to share my thoughts and experiences in the MIND 101 course and would like to thank Professor Tuttle and Giana Rodriguez (Hornet Tutor) for nominating me for this award!

Nicholas was a delight to have in MIND 101! His positivity and enthusiasm were infectious and much appreciated by his classmates and me. Nicholas actively engaged during class and was a role model to others when he shared in the discussions. Richard Lathrop

Mind 101 has brought to me an array of coping skills and knowledge on dealing with stress and becoming compassionate to myself. Professor Deidre Hughes was as good as it can come while facilitating making us feel safe and secure while opening up. I would recommend this course to anybody searching to open their mind to new insights potentially opening new outcomes.

From the first day of class onward, Richard exuded a mindset of curiosity and openness toward course material. He modeled for others what it means to be mindful and compassionate, never missing an opportunity to support another student with kind and encouraging words. Throughout the semester, Richard completed each assignment with care and consideration. He also attended many of Fullerton College’s mindfulness and compassion events demonstrating his sincere dedication to incorporating mindfulness and compassion in his life. Gus Madrigal


Gus Madrigal was an exceptional MIND 101 student. He demonstrated what it is like to be fully immersed in mindfulness and self-compassion. He actively participated online and was a role model to his peers in demonstrating what it’s like to connect the mind and body in this practice. Additionally, his thoughtful writing expressed his depth and engagement of the course. It is a pleasure to be Gus’s professor, and know he will continue to use his skill of mindfulness and self-compassion in life and academic success.

Yejin Park

Taking the MIND 101 course with Professor Hughes was the best! This class has helped me take in a new mindful perspective of how things are, and that I change the outcome if I had the courage to achieve my goals. I can’t thank Professor Hughes and Moises enough for always being there and supporting me every step of the way. I’ve been truly touched and inspired by both and am sincerely going to miss this class!

I am pleased to honor Rei’s accomplishments in Fullerton College’s Mindfulness Program. Rei consistently contributed to course discussions and was willing to report on experiences with mindfulness and compassion practices. Rei’s openness encouraged other students to participate in class and contributed to a supportive and accepting classroom environment. Additionally, Rei attended tutoring sessions regularly as well as Fullerton College mindfulness and compassion events. Rei is a very deserving recipient of this year’s Mindfulness Achievement Award.
